College Algebra help for my homework please?

Joy is an instructional assistant in one of the college labs. She is on a very tight budget. She loves Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee, but it costs $16 a pound. She decides to blend this with regular coffee beans that costs $2.31 a pound. If she spends $14.25 on 3 pounds of coffee, how many pounds of each did she purchase?

ok, this one isnt so bad. lol
in order to solve this problem we need a set of equations.
so we derive this first equation using the information given.
16a+2.31b= 14.25
and we can also derive
a(pounds) + b(pounds) = 3 pounds
so all you have to do is solve for a variable in one equation and substitute into the other.
3-a = b

16a + 2.31(3-a) = 14.25
16a + 6.93 – 2.31a= 14.25
(clean all that up, by combining like terms)
13.69a = 7.32
a= 7.32/ 13.69 = .535lbs
then plug that into either equation to get b
3-(7.32/13.69) = b
b= 2.47lbs
